Mount Hope Cemetery

The St. Andrew Bay Development Company provided the land for the community cemetery and in September of 1911, the Ladies Auxiliary of the GAR dedicated the two-acre tract on the new town’s southeastern border a “Oakland Cemetery”.

More than one-hundred Union Veterans of the War between the States lay buried here in the South. Some headstones deleted the dates so that military affiliation could be included.

Many of the town’s early settlers and their descendants also “rest in peace” in this lovely place. In the early days, citizens set aside several days a year to care for the grounds and for those with no family left behind.

On December 12, 1932, the Lynn Haven Cemetery Association renamed the site “Mount Hope,” although it is most commonly called the “Lynn Haven Cemetery.”
