Lynn Haven Community Cemetery
In the late 1800’s, many black families came to the area of Washington County known as Gay, Florida to work in the turpentine and naval stores industries. This early burial ground began use during that time. It was located “off in the woods” and most markers were made of wood or other materials that quickly deteriorated and have been lost in time.
It was the only known burial ground for the black community of the early Lynn Haven area and continues in use today as “The Lynn Haven Community Cemetery.” Although the land was outside the original city limits, it is now under the care and maintenance of the City of Lynn Haven.
